Quick answer

How it works

  1. 1

Ask for instalments when we quote

Tell us you would like to pay in instalments when we send your written fee proposal. You can choose 3, 6 or 12 monthly payments.

  2. 2

Accept and pay the first instalment by card

You accept the proposal and pay the first instalment through Paystack's secure checkout. By accepting, you authorise us to charge the same card for the remaining payments on their dates.

  3. 3

The same amount on the same date each month

The payments are equal, with any odd cents on the first one. We email you 3 days before each payment and send a receipt with a tax invoice after every payment.

  4. 4

Pay early or settle at any time

Your plan page shows what you have paid and what is left. Pay the next instalment early, switch to a new card, or settle the balance whenever you like, with no penalty.

A worked example

A fixed fee of R36,000 over 6 months is R6,000 when you accept, then R6,000 on the same date for the next five months. Total: R36,000.

Your schedule starts on the day your first payment goes through. In shorter months, the payment is taken on the last day of the month.

What it covers, and what it does not

You can spread

  • Fixed fees of R10,000 or more
  • Quoted in a written fee proposal
  • Offered on request: ask us when we quote
  • Your choice of 3, 6 or 12 monthly payments

Paid as usual

  • Smaller fixed fees, under R10,000
  • Our published online services, such as the 24-hour contract review and agreement drafting, which are paid when you book
  • Fixed-fee packages, paid as a deposit and a balance
  • The monthly retainer, which is already monthly
  • Conveyancing, which is paid through the transfer
  • Hourly work, which is billed as it is done, even on the same matter

If a payment fails

We email you straight away with a link to pay or use another card. We then try again after 3 days and after 7 days.

If you cannot keep up the payments, talk to us early. We can pause a plan. Our Terms of Engagement explain what happens if fees remain unpaid.

Questions clients ask about instalments

Which work can I pay in instalments?

Fixed fees of R10,000 or more that we quote in a written fee proposal. Ask for instalments when we quote. Smaller fixed fees, our published online services, packages, the monthly retainer and conveyancing are paid as usual.

Does it cost more?

No. You pay exactly the same fee as you would upfront. There is no interest and no extra charge for paying in instalments.

When are the payments taken?

The first when you accept the proposal, then the same amount on the same date each month for the rest of the plan.

How do I pay?

By card through Paystack's secure checkout. When you accept, you authorise us to charge the same card for the remaining instalments.

Can I pay it off early?

Yes. Your plan page lets you pay the next instalment early or settle the whole balance at any time, with no penalty.

What if a payment doesn't go through?

We email you straight away with a link to pay or use another card, and we try again after 3 days and then 7 days.

Can I change the card?

Yes. Pay your next instalment from your plan page with the new card; it then becomes the card for the remaining payments.

Is hourly work included?

No. Only the fixed fee in your proposal is spread. Hourly work on the same matter is billed as it is done.

What if I can't keep up the payments?

Talk to us early. We can pause a plan. Our Terms of Engagement explain what happens if fees remain unpaid.
